Just Holly

I wanted to share a special person's journey with my readers.  My good friend Holly lost her husband of over 35 years to cancer. November of 2015 Holly's life 

changed forever. 

She recently started a new blog Just Holly. Holly's description of her blog is "Widowhood is not for the faint of heart. This blog is dedicated to the survivors, to the strong, to the fierce, who choose to face their pain head on and then to make a life with what little is left of their heart. I believe by doing so, we honor those we loved because we LIVE!"

Art Supplies Shopping

As you guys know I am always looking for new art projects. I often try new and different ways to express my feelings.
Lately I have been trying my hand at oil painting. By no means are you ever going to see my works in your neighbor gallery - but I do enjoy expressing myself in oils.  It is amazing how relaxing painting can be.  I recently attended a painting class at our local community college. It was a fun time ~ I meet some very interesting and fun people. 

One of the things I dislike the most  is heading to the store to purchase my painting canvas.  Living in Wisconsin in the winter weather is a biggie! Today we have a wind chill of  -22 degrees. Way to cold for me to head out for supplies. 
I have found that by shopping for my art supplies online I can really save time and money. It is amazing the high quality of products available. Much higher quality than I can find at my local art supply store.

Diesel knows when the brown truck drives up the doorbell will ring. I like the fact that when I hear the door bell ring I know on the other side of the door are my new art supplies.

Is Nursing School Right for You?

You may have heard that nursing is a lucrative and rewarding profession and you may have

an interest in medicine and in caring for people. Maybe you wonder whether nursing school is right for you. The educational requirements to become a nurse can be challenging and time-consuming. In addition, many people have to pay full tuition for nursing school or have to attend classes after work. It is worthwhile to think long and hard before applying to nursing school, but once you’ve made your decision, you can prepare yourself for a fulfilling career as a nurse.

Your Personality and Skills
An indicator of whether nursing is the right profession for you is your general personality. Do people who know you well regard you as patient, compassion and helpful? Everyone likes to think that they have these qualities but also think about how well you handle stress and how open you are to listening and taking care of people even when the pressure is on. If you feel confident that you function well under stress and are focused on the well-being of other people, you may have the qualities required to be a good nurse.
In addition, you should think about your skills and what interests you. If you did pretty well in math and science in school, chances are you will be able to handle the coursework in your nursing school. On the other hand, if you dread the idea of learning more math and science, the requirements may be burdensome. Look at the course descriptions for nursing school and familiarize yourself with what classes you are required to take. Start considering various schools and keep in mind that UC offers a variety of online nurse practitioner programs.

Do Your Own Research
If you feel that you have the right personality and skills for nursing school, it is time to do research so you can look for options. If you have nurses among your family or friends, talk to them about the coursework and what a typical day or week is like. Don’t be satisfied with talking to just one or two nurses, but speak to a number of nurses who work in various fields of nursing about their coursework and their job requirements. You may be able to shadow a nurse and observe what a day on the job is like, but some hospitals and doctors’ offices may or may not allow this.
When you have decided to apply for nursing school, look for various options and apply to those that are conveniently located, have a reasonable tuition and coursework you feel you can complete. There are many online options for nursing schools today, and this revolution creates new opportunities for people who want to learn while they work. A Career With a Purpose
Nursing can be one of the most rewarding careers available to people who feel the highest aim in life is serving others and saving lives. However, not everyone has the disposition and skills for nursing. Ask yourself some honest questions and do research to see if nursing school is for you.
